from a collection entitled, Stirrup of the Sun & Moon
If you awake in the morning and don't remember,
some part of the horse-spirit that is your soul
may still be out collecting evidence.
While you go through the motions of your daily circuit,
a deeper part of you may still be engaged
with the important business of integrating the various parts of you.
Perhaps with enough time
the many different threads of you
will be woven into a handsome weather-ready saddle blanket.
Then…then you can ride.
Then, you can actually ride.
Then, with the fresh sunlight as your witness,
there were no wasted detours
because all the while
there was work quietly taking place
in the background.
